What is the role of social housing in the Danish society?

Historically, the role of the social housing sector has been to provide people of all kinds decent housing at an affordable rent.

Currently, social housing makes up about 20% of the total housing stock in Denmark and houses more than 1/6 of the population.

The Danish social housing sector comprise a total of more than 650 social housing organizations with 7,500 divisions (estates) in total, all of which are run on a non-profit basis. 

In January 2018 the number of dwellings in the social housing sector was 573.000.
